What's different for families

Buying coverage for the whole household

Family coverage means more doctors, more prescriptions and a bigger bill. Premium help depends on household income and size, and at higher incomes it can be reduced or unavailable.

That's why we put private PPO plans next to Marketplace plans and check the real cost for your household.

The whole household

Adults and kids on one plan, with the pediatricians and specialists you want to keep.

Income too high for a subsidy

If your household earns too much for premium help, we compare private PPO plans against Marketplace plans so you see both prices.

Doctors and prescriptions

We check your family's doctors, hospital and medications against each plan before you enroll.

Two main options

Marketplace or private PPO?

Most families without an employer plan choose between two kinds of plans. They work differently, and we compare both with your real numbers.

ACA Marketplace plans

Accept everyone regardless of health history, cover a standard set of benefits, and can come with premium help that depends on your income.

Private PPO plans

Often have broader doctor networks and some options with no deductible. They ask health questions and can limit or exclude coverage. Some aren't ACA-compliant, so we go through exactly what's covered.

Questions

Common questions

Do families that earn too much still get a subsidy?

Premium help depends on household income and size. At higher incomes it can be reduced or unavailable, which is why we compare private PPO plans next to Marketplace plans.

Can I keep my kids' pediatrician?

Often, but it depends on the plan. We check your doctors and hospital against each plan's network before you enroll.

Are private PPO plans the same as Marketplace plans?

No. Private PPO plans often have broader networks, but most ask health questions and can limit or exclude coverage, and some aren't ACA-compliant. We go through exactly what's covered.

When can my family enroll?

Marketplace open enrollment for 2027 coverage starts November 1, 2026. Outside that window you generally need a qualifying life event. Private plans aren't tied to open enrollment in the same way.
