What's different for you

Buying insurance as one of Florida realtors

As a realtor you're usually an independent contractor with your brokerage. That means no group health plan, no open enrollment email, and income that can swing from month to month.

Two things matter more than usual: how a plan treats your income estimate, and whether it still makes sense in a slow quarter.

Commission income that moves

Premium help on Marketplace plans depends on your expected income for the year, so a careful estimate matters. A private plan's price doesn't depend on income.

A slow stretch

Look at the deductible and the out-of-pocket maximum, not only the premium, so a bad quarter doesn't turn one visit into a problem.

Brokerage or association options

Some brokerages and associations offer member benefits. Ask what's available and we'll compare it with plans you can buy directly.

Two main options

Marketplace or private PPO?

Most people working for themselves choose between two kinds of plans. They work differently, and we compare both with your real numbers.

ACA Marketplace plans

Accept everyone regardless of health history, cover a standard set of benefits, and can come with premium help that depends on your income.

Private PPO plans

Often have broader doctor networks and some options with no deductible. They ask health questions and can limit or exclude coverage. Some aren't ACA-compliant, so we go through exactly what's covered.

How do I estimate income when commissions vary?

Use your best estimate of net income for the full year, after business expenses, and update it if it changes. A big miss can mean owing money back at tax time for Marketplace premium help.

Should I choose a Marketplace plan or a private plan?

It depends on your health, income and doctors. We compare both side by side so you can see the tradeoffs.
