High income, no subsidy

Health insurance when you don't qualify for a subsidy.

What's different for you

Buying insurance without premium help

Premium help is based on income. Once you earn above the limit, the Marketplace price is the full price, and a cheaper-looking plan is not always the better one.

We put the full-price Marketplace plans next to private PPO plans, with your doctors and your budget in mind.

Without a subsidy you pay the plan's full premium. Marketplace plans still accept everyone, regardless of health history, and cover the standard ACA benefits.

Private PPO plans may fit better

Private PPO plans often have broader doctor networks and some options with no deductible. They ask health questions and can limit or exclude coverage, so we go through what is covered.

Close to the income limit?

If your income sits near the cutoff, small changes can change what you owe. Your tax professional should confirm your numbers, and we can show both sides.

Two main options

Marketplace or private PPO?

Most people without premium help choose between two kinds of plans. They work differently, and we compare both for your situation.

ACA Marketplace plans

Accept everyone regardless of health history, cover a standard set of benefits, and can come with premium help that depends on your income.

Private PPO plans

Often have broader doctor networks and some options with no deductible. They ask health questions and can limit or exclude coverage. Some aren't ACA-compliant, so we go through exactly what's covered.

Questions

Common questions

Why don't I qualify for a subsidy?

Marketplace premium help depends on your household income and family size. Above the income limit you generally do not qualify, and the limits have changed in recent years, so we check the current rules with you.

Can I still buy a Marketplace plan without a subsidy?

Yes. You pay the plan's full price, and the plan still accepts everyone and covers the standard ACA benefits. You can enroll during open enrollment or a special enrollment period.

Is a private PPO plan an option?

It can be, if you are approved. Private plans ask health questions, can limit or exclude coverage, and some are not ACA-compliant. We go through exactly what is and is not covered.

What if my income drops later in the year?

You can update your income estimate on your Marketplace account at any time, and a drop could change what premium help you qualify for. Your tax professional can help you decide whether it is worth updating.

Can I deduct my premiums?

Many self-employed people can deduct health insurance premiums on their taxes. We are insurance agents, not tax advisors, so please confirm with your tax professional.
